Publication Ethics
De Generality Journal of Community Service is a scientific publication that contains results of community service activities that have not been previously published. This scientific code of ethics statement applies to all parties involved in the publication process of this journal, including the management, editors, peer reviewers, and authors. This statement of scientific publication ethics is based on the Regulation of the Head of LIPI Number 5 of 2014 concerning the Code of Ethics for Scientific Publications.
The essence of Scientific Publication Ethics upholds three ethical values in publication, namely:
- Neutrality, meaning being free from conflicts of interest in the management of publications;
- Fairness, meaning giving authorship rights to those who deserve to be recognized as authors; and
- Honesty, meaning being free from duplication, fabrication, falsification, and plagiarism (DF2P) in publications.
Duties and Responsibilities of the Chief Editor:
- Determine the journal name, scope of science, publication frequency, and accreditation if necessary;
- Appoint the editorial board members;
- Define the relationship between publisher, editors, reviewers, and other related parties;
- Respect confidentiality concerning contributing researchers, authors, editors, and reviewers;
- Implement standards and regulations related to intellectual property rights, particularly copyright;
- Review journal policies and convey them to authors, editors, reviewers, and readers;
- Develop a code of conduct for editors and reviewers;
- Ensure regular publication of the journal;
- Secure funding sources for the sustainability of journal publication;
- Build cooperation and marketing networks;
- Improve journal quality;
- Prepare licenses and handle other legal aspects.
Duties and Responsibilities of Editors:
- Provide comments on authors' manuscripts to help readers understand the content, through annotations on the manuscript and/or the journal website discussion features;
- Ensure language use aligns with standardized spelling rules (EYD) or the journal’s specific language standards;
- Strive for continuous improvement of publication quality;
- Uphold freedom of expression objectively;
- Provide corrections, clarifications, retractions, and apologies when necessary;
- Ensure that manuscripts do not contain content related to SARA (ethnicity, religion, race, and inter-group relations) or anything that may harm the publisher, and coordinate with the chief editor if the content is potentially controversial;
- Receive, review, and act on complaints from all parties involved in the publication process;
- Support initiatives to educate researchers about publication ethics;
- Avoid defending personal, authorial, or third-party opinions that may lead to biased decisions;
- Encourage authors to revise their work until it is suitable for publication;
- Layout manuscripts in accordance with the journal’s template;
- Assist the chief editor in finalizing the manuscript collection before printing and publishing, especially in terms of language, formatting, and layout.
Duties and Responsibilities of Peer Reviewers:
- Provide objective and unbiased written feedback on the scientific merit and contribution of the manuscript to the field;
- Assess whether the manuscript is clear, complete, relevant, and aligned with the scope of the journal;
- Avoid personal criticism or comments;
- Maintain manuscript confidentiality by not discussing its content with unrelated parties or disclosing information contained in it to others.
Duties and Responsibilities of the Website Administrator:
The Website Administrator is responsible for managing the journal’s website. Specifically, the scope of tasks includes:
- Setting up the journal website;
- Configuring system options and managing user accounts;
- Registering editors, reviewers, and authors;
- Managing journal features;
- Viewing statistical reports.
